How to match your CV to a job ad

A strong application starts with understanding what the employer is really looking for. Here is how to compare step by step.

1. Break down the job ad

Highlight requirements for experience, education, tools and personal qualities. Separate mandatory requirements from desirable ones.

  • The role's main responsibilities
  • Skills mentioned several times
  • Requirements you can support with results

2. Find evidence in your CV

It is not enough to say that you are experienced. Link every important requirement to a concrete example, result or area of responsibility in your CV.

3. Tailor without exaggerating

Use the same established terms as the job ad when they match your experience. Never add skills you do not have.

  • Move relevant experience higher
  • Clarify results with numbers
  • Remove information that obscures what matters most
